As a music teacher, I try to create a nurturing environment where students of all ages are empowered to learn and grow not just as musicians who intend to pursue a career in music, but as human beings who appreciate and recognize the infinite beauty of music.
For VOICE LESSONS (ages 11+), I teach classical vocal technique to students of all ability levels, working with those in junior high up through adult on legit vocal styles from western art song to classic musical theater, with an emphasis on opera and historical performance practice. I am also happy to help choral singers who want to develop a stronger vocal technique and those singers who just want to figure out how to carry a tune! If basic musicianship skills aren't already present, a portion of each lesson will be spent learning to read music in addition to singing in harmony, studying vocal technique, and exploring repertoire.
For PIANO (ages 5+), I work with beginners through intermediate levels, starting with students in kindergarten up through adult. Younger students may be considered if they have begun learning to read. My focus is on developing the musicianship skills to play in a variety of piano styles, learning to read music, and studying common practice period repertoire.
For UKULELE, including baritone, (ages 6+) and GUITAR (ages 11+), I work with beginners, starting with those in elementary school up through adult. Younger students may be considered after a trial lesson. My focus is on developing the skills to chord along while singing. Students will learn chords, strumming and picking patterns, scales, how to interpret lyric and lead sheets, as well as how to read music and tablature.
